Planning for Next Week!

Planning

All go from Monday!

Today, we had a site meeting with our builder and architects to plan the construction to come. While we’ll spare you the details around contractual relationships and Health and Safety plans, you may be interested in the updated construction roadmap, parking and site safety, the colour schemes, along with how you can help with painting, moving, and the future without.

The Construction Roadmap.

The current plan is for the builders to begin demolition on Monday (27th May), with new construction beginning the following week (Monday, 3rd June). The intention is to have the first phase completed by the end of June. With the second phase completed by the end of July.

Phase one involves refurbishing the four rearmost classrooms (which will be turned into two as part of the refurbishment) and the room previously used as the ministry centre kitchen.  Phase two will involve the main room of the present ministry centre space. Phasing this stage of the Building Back Better project ensures that our kids still have space for their Sunday programs throughout the construction process.

Parking and Site Safety.

The builders will use all carparks directly adjacent to the ministry centre and cottage. So, please avoid using these carparks if you visit church during the week. We also understand that you may want to check on progress during the week, but for health and safety reasons we ask that you keep an appropriate distance. There will be the opportunity to check out the progress mid-way through… though, it will involve joining the painting team.

The Colour Schemes.

During this meeting we also discussed colour schemes. As our acoustic wall linings (Autex composite) extend from floor to ceiling and cover half of the walls in three of the four ministry spaces, our colour schemes are largely driven by the options that Autex provides. Guided by our architect, we chose a simple scheme that uses three gradients of a muted green. We chose muted colours to help the spaces feel calm and to enable them to be comfortably used by non-kids’ programs.  We chose gradients of green to help the rooms feel natural and connected to our property, while also aligning with our kid’s logos/images. Of the gradients, we chose three as this allows us to use a distinct green for each room, aligning the shade of green with the age that meets in it: pods, light green; sprouts, mid-green; forest, darker green. The carpet is a fairly standard carpet tile with small pops of colour (yes, including green). While most of the remaining walls will be painted the same shade of white as the ceilings to reduce the amount of ‘cutting in’ required.

When the time comes, we will need help painting the required walls and ceilings. So please let us know if you are able to help.

The Big Move.

To clear the spaces for the builders to begin on Monday, we do need to move some of the stuff that is presently stored in the rear ministry centre classrooms. If you are able to help us after the service on Sunday, please let us know.

Future Fit-Out.

As we want each room to have a dedicated TV mounted to the wall for any programs or courses that use it, we’re on the hunt for a few more TV’s. Currently we have two, maybe three TV’s, but we need four. So if you have a High Definition (HD), LCD TV, that has HDMI input and is 40″ or larger that you no longer need, please let us know!
