It would be fair to say that the journey to obtaining a signed agreement for the relocation of the church cottage has been longer than many of us anticipated.
As the property of Village Baptist is legally vested with the Baptist Union, we needed to obtain ‘sign off’ from the Union to approve transferring ownership of the cottage for its relocation. But to limit the associated liability, to both the Union and the church, the Union then required the completion of a contract provided before providing the ‘sign off’ required. Due to the nature of this contract, the couple were then required to obtain as much certainty as possible that the relocation would be a success before signing on the dotted line. This involved multiple meetings onsite with the moving company, builder, and architect, along with final approval from the council for the relocation of the cottage, something that was a little more involved than usual due to the asbestos containing material within it.
But now that work has been completed, we’veĀ received a signed copy of that contract, meaning… the deal is done! All that is left is to finalize the precise date of the relocation.
This deal is a win-win-win; its a win for the church as it saves us as much as $60k in demolition costs, its a win for the couple as they get a house for free, and it’s a win for the house as it’s been given a second life.
With this ~$60k reduction in costs (against a estimate provided in mid-2023), we are now only $77,300 away from reaching our funding goal for stages 1 and 2 of our Building Back Better project. If you are able to get us over the line, please send your donation through using the info below.
