For as long as the church has been on the present site, the property hasn’t been fully fenced. This has presented a risk for the church, as it means that the only thing between grazing stock and Te Aute road is a porous hedge and portable electric fence. The lack of fencing also meant that stock had access to the bore head and pump shed which places our water source at risk of contamination. While this work had been long planned, it was incorporated into our Build Back Better Plans as the fencing will affect our ability to bring the classroom on site, and the removal of trees will affect the outdoor space available to the classroom. Today we completed the removal of the hedge that ran along Te Aute Road, the trees to form an outdoor area for the classroom, and the instillation of fencing to secure the property.
Notable changes to the original fencing plan designed to accommodate the transport and future use of the classroom are:
- New and larger gate to allow for classroom transport and allow easy access from the classroom to the olive grove.
- Greater removal of olive trees to create an outdoor area for the classroom.
- Pruning rather than removing the first two rows of trees from the road to offer some obscuring planting for those using the field.
