As our work shifted from the immediate cleanup to long-term planning, a ‘Property Development Committee’ was established. This committee was formed to quickly discern which of the many possible long-term solutions were viable, and so narrow our focus on the best two. The two options that emerged were:
Option A:
- The demolition of the church office (155m2)
- The construction of the first stage of the planned kids-youth hall (155m2)
- The repartitioning of the flooded ministry center rooms into office and ministry space.
Option B:
- The demolition of the church office (155m2)
- The repartitioning of the ministry center to create two offices that will compliment the present open plan office
- The repartition of the four flooded ministry rooms into two large ones for Sunday programs
- The replacement of the ministry center kitchen with a kitchenette, allowing for that room to be used for Sunday programs
- The relocation of a transportable classroom (140-170m2) to provide space for Sunday programs
During this time Village Baptist had also received a number of other donations to support our rebuild. This included over $12,000 from the Lower North Island Baptist Association to fund temporary accommodation for our Sunday kids programs.
