Short, Medium, and Long Term Plans

Building Back Better Background (3)

This week we were able to identify the source of the water contamination and develop a treatment plan. Unfortunately, we were unable to empty the tank to clean and refill it, because the high water table would mean that the tank would become buoyant and ‘float’ out of the ground damaging pipework in the process. So treatment would need to occur in situ, using a very heavy dose of chlorine to ensure the treatment was 100% effective the first time. Due to the time required to treat and test the water, our church cafe remained closed while we returned to in-person gatherings.

However, with a return to in-person gatherings came a challenge of space, having lost four kids’ ministry rooms where would our kids meet? What we would discover was that in response to civil disasters, civil defense hires all marquees in the region and surrounding regions. In our case, they also hired all available portacoms. While we would eventually find a solution in a local cabin hire company, finding this solution would take a long time. While we were developing short-term solutions to the issue of space, we simultaneously began developing long-term plans. Our starting point for this was the plans that had previously been developed for a Kids-Youth Hall, but this plan would progressively change as options were considered by the church’s building team, and the church was consulted on the process.
