Faith @ Home PDF Print E-mail

Home – the place where faith is built….or not.

Did you know that fewer than 10% of parents who regularly attend church with their children actually read the Bible together, pray together (other than meal times) or do any act of service as a family?   Did you know that 64-94% of evengelical children leave the church shortly after graduating high school?

The Bible is clear that the home is where faith is nurtured and passed on from generation to generation (Deuteronomy 6:1-9, 2 Timothy 1:5).  One of the primary reasons why people leave, or do not engage in, the Christian faith is hypocrisy.  If we are different people at home then we are at church on Sunday morning, people notice.  Your kids notice.  Your neighbours notice.  Your co-workers notice.    If you have a home – whether you are single, have loads of kids, or an empty nest – then this is where your faith becomes apparent.

Faith@Home is about helping people live a 24/7 Christian lifestyle, not a one-hour, at church only, Christianity.  Write your adult children a letter telling them that you will never stop praying for them, they are too important to you.  Talk to your pre-schoolers about our wonderful creator and how much he loves them.  Pray with your teenagers about issues they are facing.  Make faith an ingrained part of your very being.

This raises an obvious question of course..what about the church?  Shouldn’t that be at the center of any Christian’s spiritual life?  Yes – the church has the role of being a life-long partner (but not a replacement or drop off center) with families.  Our church is beginning on a journey of putting in place the resources and guidance to equip you and partner with you as you live out your faith@home.... and it’s going to be good.
